PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Early career
Attorney Gonsalves began his legal career as an Immigration Defense attorney representing individuals facing removal and advocating for relief under Asylum, Withholding of Removal, and the Convention Against Torture. His early work in high‑stakes immigration litigation established a strong foundation in complex federal practice and client‑centered advocacy. Later in his career, Gonsalves would return to representing individuals in immigration proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review through a well-known nonprofit organization that provides immigrants with education, resources, and access to legal counsel.

Gonsalves later served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, prosecuting both misdemeanor and felony offenses. This role provided Gonsalves with valuable insight into criminal litigation from the prosecution’s perspective and strengthened his ability to analyze cases from both sides of the courtroom. Later in his career, Gonsalves would return to the District Court - this time on the defense side - to provide legal representation to individuals charged with felony crimes such as felony embezzlement.

Building on this diverse experience, Attorney Gonsalves expanded his practice to include representation of nursing home corporations in Conservatorship, Guardianship, and Rogers proceedings, as well as in Probate Court matters involving the administration and probate of estates. His work with long‑term care facilities has strengthened his ability to navigate the intersection of clinical, regulatory, and fiduciary issues with precision and strategic judgment.

Attorney Gonsalves is committed to public service and regularly provides legal assistance and guidance to survivors of domestic violence who are unable to access representation due to the nature of the abuse they have endured and the control exerted over them. He currently collaborates with a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by domestic violence. He remains actively engaged in his community, is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, possesses a Broker's License to buy and sell real estate, is an active Notary Public in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and maintains an active license to practice before the Immigration Courts.
